News: After Heartbleed, Step Up Security to Stay in HIPAA Compliance
May 5
2014:Roy Edroso, an editor of Part B News, quotes Tatiana Melnik on his story discussing the "Heartbleed Internet Security crisis" and the possible need to report a data breach.
Providers cannot ignore the Heartbleed bug and must respond appropriately. "Providers should also make sure to document their processes and responses as necessary in case something does go wrong so that they can demonstrate they were taking commercially reasonable efforts to protect PHI," says Tatiana Melnik, health care and technology attorney at Melnik Legal in Tampa, Fla.
